Description
The Businessman is an economic, support, and offensive tower that generates cash at the start of each wave. Path 1 generates more money and can reduce ability cooldowns, while Path 2 allows it to shoot in other Businessmen range, grant upgrade discounts and sabotage health of newly spawned enemies.
Businessman has -100% defense piercing, which means if an enemy has 1 defense, Businessman will deal 2 less damage to it instead of 1. Fortunately as you upgrade Businessman, it does get increased defense pierce, even bypassing 100%.

Appearance
The Businessman, as you would guess, has an appearance of a businessman. It wears a bowler hat and tie, while also wielding a Deagle. It wears a light grey suit with exceptionally tall collar.
Lore
"After the invasion, the economies of various countries buckled up for a crash far greater than the Great Depression. Stocks dipped below their historic lows. Various people drowned under the pressure, but some stayed up. Businessmen, you could say? These are unaffiliated with the Command and come in various forms - with some having luxurious amounts to spend on quite inefficient weaponry and jetpacks."

Tactics
- Businessman can serve as an alternative for early game defense due to its decent DPS for its cost and the fact that it could generate you some money with a few upgrades. It is recommended to place multiple 2-1 Businessmen for early game defense as this allows you to both profit a moderate amount of cash per wave, and be able to fend off most early game enemies.
- But be sure to place down different towers in later waves, as Businessman has horrible defense piercing until 3rd upgrades.
- Path 1 Businessman is recommended for use as a main source of income and a viable damage dealer. In terms of DPS it competes with Sniper; having less range and damage but shoots more frequently, can reduce ability cooldowns, and generates cash every wave.
- Unlike Market however, it is better to focus on quantity over quality when wanting to generate income using Businessman, as later upgrades are too expensive to be able to profit within a few waves.
- It is recommended to place down at least 6 3-X Businessmen to aid in reducing ability cooldowns for towers such as Bugler, Demolitionist, Elite, Recon Base, Gunslinger, Freezer, and Businessman himself, as this reaches the maximum cooldown reduction of 30%.
- Path 2 Businessman’s Sabotage ability:
- Cons: It is not recommended for damage use as it has low DPS, low income, and its passive range seeking ability is not that useful when you could just use something else. Its ability is also very underwhelming to use, as it is expensive to activate, and only reduces the health of newly spawned enemies for a short time. It is capped to reducing up to 2,500 HP only making it ineffective to most late-game bosses. And most importantly, the biggest offender is that it makes your entire team gain less money from enemies, as their HP is reduced.
- Pros: In later waves in Expert mode where hordes of high HP enemies like Nulls and Tranquils spawn, even though a 2,500 HP decrease may seem small for major bosses, against hordes of non-boss enemies this ability is quite useful. With 6 3-X Businessmen, this ability can be chained with 3 X-4 Businessmen to make it last a long time. Ignoring the cash loss, this ability is equal to making infinite amounts of enemies have less health at the price of
3,000. In addition, in multiplayer Expert, a lot of income also comes from Markets and money earned during late game is already a lot so this ability shouldn’t make as much of an impact on money.
- The ability has its pros and cons, and you have to use it in a way that will benefit as much as possible, to get most advantages out of the ability.
- With 16 4-0 Businessman, the cash gained per wave is
12,800. While 6 4-2 Markets only generates up to
15,840 every wave. Though the cost of the 16 4-0 Businessmen will be
214,400, which is not worth to use Businessman for farming if using Market tower since 6 4-2 of them is for a price of
78,660.
- X-3 and X-4 Businessman can reduce upgrade costs for T3 and T4 by 5% respectively, stacking up to 20% with four Businessmen on said upgrades.
- This can reduce upgrade costs for T3 and T4 on expensive towers such as Electricizer, Lightbeamer and Recon Base.
- Keep in mind that the upgrade costs increase per new X-3 and X-4 Businessmen.
- To combat this, it is recommended to get only four X-4 Businessmen in optimal positions so the range can reach existing and future towers and provide a 20% discount on both T3 and T4 upgrades.
- Do note that X-3 and X-4 Businessmen ability to shoot in other Businessmen range does not increase its discount range, as well as Bugler range buffs.
- To combat this, it is recommended to get only four X-4 Businessmen in optimal positions so the range can reach existing and future towers and provide a 20% discount on both T3 and T4 upgrades.
- X-3 and X-4 Businessman cannot grant discounts to itself; however, it can still get discounts from other X-3 and X-4 Businessmen.
- This can help with X-3 and X-4 upgrade costs increasing per new X-3 and X-4 Businessmen.
Trivia
- The Businessman mainly takes inspiration from the Tower Battles Tweeter and Tower Battles: Battlefront Tweeter, both being games OsterDog contributed to and created, respectively.
- The G-Man skin for Businessman is a reference to the G-Man from the Half Life series.
- The Scrooge skin for Businessman is a reference to Ebenezer Scrooge from the short novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
- The Businessman is most likely a reference to the C.O.B.R.A from BTD Battles as they both have a cash generation per wave mechanic and have the same upgrade name of "attrition".
- Cobra from BTD Battles being 2-X.
- Businessman being X-4.
- There was a bug that allowed you to get Businessman for free, go to any 6 maps and after dying in expert mode, it still counts as a win. This bug has been patched in the Ode of Autumn update and no longer works.
- Businessman is the one of the two towers to have flying detection by default, the other tower being Surveyor.
- Previously it's flying detection was moved to X-2 in 2023 but it was moved back to Default in the Eternal Update.
