Description
The Sniper is a powerful single-target tower whose redeeming qualities are long range, cheap upgrades for early-game, and full defense piercing at base level, making it a staple for almost any Expert Mode loadout and a strong choice in Normal Mode or Hard Mode.

Lore
Long range reconnaissance tends to win battles. Good luck shooting an enemy whose position is completely unknown. How do you remedy this? Placed in strategic positions, snipers can provide a level of information on alien activity, and their high-powered rifles allow for the decimation of the majority of enemies through headshots alone. While most snipers are drafted, a select few are cloned and bioaugmented. These soldiers, often called 'Cyclops', are notable for their singular blue glowing eye and their quick reaction time. For reference, the maximum amount of balls you could reasonably juggle is 3. For these snipers, juggling 8 balls is no sweat. This is thanks to their brains working on overdrive, where 1 second to us can feel like a quarter of a second to them.

Tactics
- Sniper is often a required tower in most Expert mode runs due to its viability for the entire game. Its high range coupled with its initially cheap upgrade cost, flying detection, and full defense pierce allows it to outperform Sharpshooter at taking down early game enemies with high defense like Metallics and Truck M2s and later enemies with defense like Cosmil and Hard Light.
- Sniper is even more important on Ranked Up Expert mode where tons of enemies have defense and much of it; a good example of this is Spored Officer.
- A common strategy for early game in Expert mode is to place as many 1-1 Snipers (1-0 before wave 12 or Jetpackers) before wave 19 or save for a 3-2 Sniper for Berserker.
- Just 4 (Or more depending on the modifiers active) 1-1 Snipers to defend early, and then upgrading one to 2-4 can be more cost efficient for only
1,250 more with the ability to defeat Berserker.
- Just 4 (Or more depending on the modifiers active) 1-1 Snipers to defend early, and then upgrading one to 2-4 can be more cost efficient for only
- Path 1 Sniper is able to deal heavy damage at long intervals with longer range (except 2-4) than Path 2. It is great against enemies with over 200 health as this allows Path 1 Snipers to maximize their damage and may be a better upgrade option during mid-late game. Unfortunately, aiming time isn't affected by firerate buff, leading to some extra DPS losses depending on the buff's value, with higher being worse
- Path 1 Sniper is also able to deal up to 291 damage with a cooldown of ~2.93 (~99.31 DPS) with 4-X Bugler, while Path 2 Sniper only deals 16 damage with a cooldown of ~0.259 (61.77 DPS) with the aforementioned towers.
- Path 2 Sniper deals consistent low damage at short intervals, while being more cost efficient than Path 1. It is good at dealing with weaker hordes of enemies and enemies with a damage cap lower than 291, such as the Pure Champion.
- It is a good idea to save for a 2-3 Sniper around early to mid game; a 3-2 Sniper only costs
4620 more than another 2-2, but deals almost quadruple the DPS and is very effective against the weak crowds found during this point of the game while being a decent boss killer.
- Using Path 1 in combination with towers that can deal with faster and weaker enemies like Elite or Vulcan can be a good strategy. Set Path 1 Snipers' targeting to "strong" in order to maximize their damage on strong but slower enemies like Carrier Tank, Elites or Vulcans with their targeting on "first", dealing with weaker but faster enemies like Elite Soldier.
- Because of how expensive 2-4 Sniper is for it's mediocre DPS, it is not recommended to get this upgrade at all. It is not cost efficient and it has terrible defense piercing.
Trivia
- The Sniper's design is based on the Sniper from the videogame Team Fortress 2.
- The Vintage skin for the Sniper represents how the Sniper used to be (except the appearance), with the sounds and how it sits.
- The Vintage skin for the Sniper carries a M1 Garand, which is a American rifle. In reality, M1 Garand is semi auto, but for some reason here it is bolt action, although, it could be that the gun jams after every shot or it is a modified M1 Garand with a different receiver.
- Prior to the Eternal Update, the Sniper did not get affected by bullet resistance despite shooting bullets.
- This was because Sniper's damage type was set to "sniper" when it was supposed to be "bullet" in the game's code.
- The Sniper is the only tower where defense piercing gets reduced at higher upgrades.
- It is quite likely that 2-4's massively increased range is a mistake, as the top path should be more accurate than the auto-shooting bottom path.
